Jason Bentley

19 March

shapeimage_2-28.jpg

We wanted to interview Jason Bentley of KCRW for a couple obvious reasons. Number one, he has the rare opportunity to spin house music over he radio waves in America (Los Angeles, more specifically). Number two, his past club event series of Bossa Nova that showcased the likes of Daft Punk, Charles Webster, and many others… Well, you get the point. It should also be noted that Jason currently sits on the Board of Governors of National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and was instrumental in the creation of a new category to recognize the “Best Dance/Electronic Album” at the Grammy’s each year.

We’ve been hunting down Marques for a year! In his interview we got to know his spiritual side, and also his great sense of humor. From stories about Madonna to Prince, Marques opened our minds and made us laugh along the way. Check out deep-la.com for upcoming house lineups most Sundays @ Vanguard in Hollywood. (Vanguard has the legendary Funktion One sound system…)

Every “House Head” knows about Wax Records… We spoke the Juan Nunez, one of the founding fathers of this much missed mecca/record store. Later that evening we grabbed a bite and partied at one of his gigs at Honey in Hollywood.

I called up Andy on a Wednesday to check his schedule for an interview. He proceed to tell me that the next day we’d be going to Korea and then to Japan, but he’d be back by the following Monday. Jet lag, anyone?

Look out for some great disco remixes on the way. Also, “Jack Your Body” hosted and performed by Andy Caldwell & Julius Papp. “Jack Your Body” is all Classical House Music.

UPDATE!
We finally hooked up with Colette at her home in LA.

Colette Fun Fact #1

Did you know that Colette is married to Thomas Ian Nicholas, who is the famed actor from the American Pie films. (We was the guy who dated Tara Reid… in the movie, not real life…)

Colette Fun Fact #2

Colette worked at the famous Gramaphone Records in Chicago and then made her way to Wax Records in Los Angeles.

Remember my friend and one of my favorite djs, Joplin? Well, she opened for Colette at Nacional Monday, July 31st. For those who don’t know, Colette not only spins records, but sings over instrumental records… Live!

If you have the means; check her out. We’ll be talking to Colette soon,

UPDATE!
Got Tony at the studio!!!

Tony Watson (Mekanic, Sentrall - LA) hit Gotham Hall in Santa Monica ala Strut with Lars Behrenroth (DSoH / XM Radio). I miss Tony’s residency at The Arsenal, because I lived right down the street from there.

P.S. Tony, If you read this, the track I was referring to was a remix you did called “So Excited” (You Can’t Stop Here Edit) - Motion Lab.

We also got to catch up with Jonathan Lastra formally of Wax Records. He has a new track out, and I’ll be damned if I can’t remember the track’s name (and google ain’t help out much either…)

For Tony’s schedule of events and more info, look him up at www.mekanic.com. We will be talking to Tony and Jonathan real soon.

King Britt hooked us up with his old buddy “Winky”. A.K.A.: Josh Wink.

When I first met Josh at the studio, I thought Tracy picked up the wrong dude.. You see, Josh just got a “hair cut” and I was looking for the “fro”.

Scott was kind enough to do his interview while he was sick.. Thanks Buddy!

[Via Mind Box Media]

Scott is playing with the best in the industry and is known for his style of house that is unlike any other. It’s like putting Louie Vega, Marques Wyatt, Diz & Roy David Jr. in a blender. Scott K. is truly an artist with releases coming out on his Box Music label and collaborations on other labels.
