Ian Pooley

16 November

shapeimage_2-13.jpg

After we interviewed Ian Pooley, we drove him to meet his buddy, Allen Voskanian (Bossa Nova) at Falcon in Hollywood for dinner. Ian invited us to stay for a bite… so we did.

It was a Thursday night and the place was not that crowded.. There were just the typical trendy Hollywood peeps, eating dinner and listening to themselves talk.

Allen was spinning that night, and after we finished dinner, invited Ian to take to the decks.

As i looked around the room to see if anyone would notice, I couldn’t help to think of all the countless times I stood in line and payed to Ian Pooley! And now not only did I just have dinner with the guy… We basically get a private performance from him…

I love this project. (And yes, I am a nerd.)

Wally Callerio

2 November

shapeimage_2-12.jpg

We headed down to the home of Dufflebag Records in Huntington Beach and hung out with Wally. How did he come up with the name “Dufflebag” for his record label?

It’s our little secret…

Check out digbag.com and get on the list to know when it goes live. This site is for musicians, by musicians, and cuts out the middleman.

Julius Papp

21 October

    shapeimage_2-11.jpg

We got to speak with Julius Papp while he was in town spinning for Sue @ Balance (King King, LA). He even gave a ride to the event and we got great parking!

But I got an email after we met:

“Something hit me AFTER the interview… - it’s regarding your question which was about what “House music is to me?”

“I don’t know why I didn’t address it more like this in the first place
- which is the very obvious answer for me…”

“House music to me (Real house music anyway), is all about an
uplifting, positive message. Coming together in unity with no
barriers or restrictions but rather with tolerance and the spirit of
music unifying people on the dancefloor…

Music has and can be political, controversial and quite negative which
is part of our real world and reflects society in general but House
music tends to preach a more positive vibe which can be shared on the dancefloor in the hopes of creating a more uplifting atmosphere which translates to an optimistic outlook…” - Julius Papp

I could not agree more…

Rithma

12 October

shapeimage_21.jpg

We headed up to “Rancho Relax-O”. Home to: Rithma Music off Topanga. At first I thought we were greeted by Joe Dirt… Why you ask? Because Etienne (aka Rithma) was sporting the most beautiful mullet I have ever seen in person. I mean, he did David Spade proud.

We were also treated with hearing tracks off his upcoming album from OM Records “Sex Sells”. Amazing… Pick it up March 07.

Oh.. and a word of warning: If you visit Rithma, look out for the coyotes. :)

We had a chance to sit down with King Britt @ the Le Parc Hotel in Beverly Hills. Sadly, Britt was not in LA for a gig, but on a layover on his way home for some R & R.

Jason Blakemore

12 May

shapeimage_2-3.jpg

I ended up tracking down Jason on MySpace of all places! We drove down to Orange County and spoke with the formerly known “DJ Trance” amongst his vast record collection in his basement.

[Via http://www.jasonblakemore.com]

One of LAs original underground house/rave DJs, Jason Blakemore (formerly DJ Trance) was also the first DJ in the Solar System. He invented the 4/4 drum beat, the cymbal pattern, and the bassline. He also created the sampler, the keyboard and the computer. When Mike Sckotleeonibergly of the New York Times recently asked Blakemore, “What is cutting edge?,” Jason paused and then wisely answered, “Warning! Cutting edge is sharp! Do not touch!”
